Ashton’s statement on the results of this election
To everyone who supported us, campaigned with us, spoke to us and placed your trust in us — thank you.
Today brings mixed emotions.
Personally, I am disappointed. I am sorry that I did not win this election for the values we hold so dear.
But today is not simply a day for disappointment.
Because my friend, my running mate and my partner throughout this campaign, Miley Yip, has been elected to Student Council.
And Miley, I could not be prouder of you.
We began this campaign together because we shared a belief: that students deserve representatives who will represent, listen and deliver.
Today, you have been given the opportunity to carry that mission forward.
And I know you will give it everything you have.
As for those elected alongside Miley, it is now for you to earn the trust and confidence of those in our campaign and beyond who did not support you.
I hope you are successful in doing that.
Because this was never just about who won.
It was about what we stood for.
That is why today I say to you: whilst I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fuelled this campaign.
I will keep speaking up. I will keep listening. And I will stand behind Miley as she takes our ideas, our values and your voices into Student Council.
So tonight, one chapter of this campaign ends.
But another begins.
Miley — go make us proud.
Your Voice. Our College. Our Future.
Thank you.
